Combining Brainspotting and Yoga Therapy: What Therapists Need to Know
Mar 17, 2026
Why I Finally Let These Two Modalities Meet
I had been a therapist and yoga therapist for years when I realized I was doing something counterproductive. I was holding two powerful healing tools in separate hands and never letting them touch.
Brainspotting in one room. Yoga therapy in the other. I believed in both. I had trained deeply in both. But when I sat with my clients, I kept them apart. It felt more professional. Safer. Like mixing them would somehow make me less credible.
I was wrong. And the moment I stopped compartmentalizing changed everything.
What Happens When Brainspotting Meets the Body
Brainspotting is a trauma-informed therapy that uses the visual field to access and process what’s stored in the subcortical brain, the part of us that holds sensation, emotion, memory, and intuition. It bypasses the thinking mind. It reaches what talk therapy often can’t.
Yoga therapy, at its core, does something similar. It teaches that the body holds memory. That breath reorganizes the nervous system. That movement and sensation can reach the places language simply cannot.
When I let these two modalities work together inside a session, my clients started dropping in faster. Breakthroughs went deeper. The work felt less like technique and more like genuine co-regulation. I left sessions feeling alive and connected rather than depleted. And that’s when I knew this needed to be taught.
What Is The Yothera Method for Brainspotting?
The Yothera Method for Brainspotting is an 8-hour live online workshop designed for therapists and helping professionals who want to bring embodiment tools into their Brainspotting practice. It’s an approved specialty workshop and has been approved for 6 CEs.
This is not a yoga class. There are no poses, no prior experience required. What I teach in this workshop is how to use beginner-friendly yoga therapy concepts, such as breath, sensation, movement, and the senses, to help clients access their subconscious brain and body more fully within a Brainspotting session.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is for you if you’re a Brainspotting Level 1 therapist who wants to deepen your application immediately. It’s also for helping professionals who haven’t yet taken Brainspotting but work 1:1 with clients and want practical somatic tools to use right away.
You do not need yoga experience. You do not need to be advanced in Brainspotting. You just need an open mind and a willingness to feel something new.
What You’ll Learn and Practice
The workshop is fully experiential. You won’t just learn concepts, you’ll embody them. We’ll cover how to use the senses in a session, exercises to use with clients before, during, and after a session to help them connect more deeply to their subconscious brain and body, and how to guide clients into their bodies and felt sense in a way that makes the Brainspotting work go further.
We’ll also do group yoga therapy and Brainspotting practices, which are accessible to everyone, even seated. These are free-movement practices, not poses. And we’ll have breakout groups to practice with each other in real time.
Why This Matters for Your Clients
Many therapists are doing incredible Brainspotting work but feel like something is still missing. Their clients are making progress, but the sessions feel effortful. The breakthroughs are good, but they could go deeper.
What’s often missing is a body-based layer. A way to help clients get out of their heads and into their nervous system before the Brainspotting even begins. A way to keep them connected to their felt sense while the processing happens. A way to land the work in the body after the session ends.
That’s exactly what this workshop teaches.
